Some ideas on where to walk within the National Park and Geopark

Aircraft Crash Sites

A newly extended version of the original booklet, containing details of an additional ten crash sites has now been produced in partnership with the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) and is available to purchase through local information centres or by post. The money raised for the RAF Association by the sale of this booklet will go to the Battle of Britain Wings Appeal. This appeal has been raising money since the end of World War 2 in order to provide help, friendship and support to those serving and former members of the Royal Air Force and the Air Forces of the Commonwealth, their spouses and dependants of those who died whilst serving.

Wildlife Walks

Why not get a copy of the Wildlife Walks booklet with 12 wonderful nature reserves to visit. Walks are less than 2 hours and many less than an hour so if you have young ones or dont fancy a hike these are the places to go.

Brinore Tramroad

The Brinore Tramroad offers wonderful walking in and above the Talybont valley, looking at the area's industrial past on the way.

Taff Trail

There is a new series of walks, cycle routes and horse riding routes to the south of the National Park created by Groundwork and associated with the Taff Trail. Go to the Loops & Links Website for more information.

Penderyn Old Mineral Line

This is a short traffic-free trail in the south of the National Park and Geopark.

Bwlch walks

Countryside Access in Wales is a guide to land and paths that are normally available for access on foot in Wales.

Powys Trails provides an overview of walks in the National Park and across Powys, including two National Trails, two long distance riverside walks and a number of shorter, but no less beautiful walks, to explore.

Please follow the Countryside Code at all times.

Once you are in the area, why not drop by for a chat at any of the National Park Information Centres where expert staff will be glad to advise you where to go for wonderful walks. There are many guidebooks to walking in the National Park available at Centres - a list and order form can be obtained here.

Temporary footpath closures:

The following public rights of way have been closed temporarily while harvesting works are carried out by Forestry Commission Wales:

Grid Ref SO29170722 from the Goose and Cuckoo through Craig yr Allt Wood footpaths 124, 125 and 126 from 15 July 2010 for six months
Grid Ref SO262253 from Blaen y Cwm in the Grwyne Fawr bridleway 15, FP 13 and FP 212 from 6 May 2010 for six months
A major landslip has occurred on the disused railway embankment at GR 865182 between Penwyllt and Bwlch Bryn-rhudd where the railway meets the A4067.
The landslip is on Access Land but access rights have been suspended until the area is stabalised to ensure the safety of the public. It is therefore not possible to walk from Penwyllt to Bwlch Bryn-rhudd on the old railway.
Please on no account approach the landslip which is unstable and further collapse may occur. Issued 23rd September 2010.
